This March 25, 2014 NPR article talks about the debate over the importance of teaching kids how to write in Cursive.  Scientists suggest that typing, printing and cursive are all important, in that they help develop fine motor skills, but that there is no evidence that cursive is superior to printing.  Scientists feel that the real issue has nothing to do with whether students print or use Cursive, but rather raise the question of whether students are writing enough.  It is becoming more and more common for students to have multiple choice questions or a blank in a sentence they need to complete, while essays and composition are becoming more and more scarce.
